Javen is a 25 year old EDM producer from Ohio. He’s lived there his whole life. Before coming back from a 5 year hiatus from electronic music, he worked in politics and spent time as a union organizer.

He’s been here since the beginning. Back when dubstep wasn’t a product, wasn’t optimized, and sure as hell wasn’t controlled by a handful of industry gatekeepers pretending to be "the culture." Prior to his return, he released on DubstepGutter/Gutter Records, (now owned by the music conglomerate Central Music Group), and incredible underground labels such as Interval Audio, Full Flex Audio, and Reinelex Records.​

 

Coming back now, it’s obvious what happened. The "EDM scene" got cleaned up, packaged, and handed over to an oligarchic class that runs it like a business instead of a movement. Algorithms decide what gets heard. Corporations decide what gets pushed. And a lot of it sounds exactly like that.

 

This isn’t that.​

 

For Javen, sound design is sacrosanct. You don’t streamline it. You don’t water it down. You build it from nothing and you stand on it.

 

No formulas. No chasing placements. No pretending.
